From our starting point to Atlanta, Georgia, it is about a 6 hour drive, so we split it in half. Just above the Florida Georgia state line, we stopped for some breakfast at Cracker Barrel and a nap in the parking lot (as is tradition on any road trip). Then we stopped over for a few hours and a BBQ lunch at the halfway point, Savannah, Georgia (point a).

Savannah, Georgia
Although it was pretty rainy the whole day, Savannah is a cute little city with some interesting architecture and big beautiful trees. We didn’t have much time and only needed to stretch our legs a bit. So we found a BBQ place with good ratings and headed that way.
Savannah Smokehouse BBQ Assessment:
Order: pulled pork, brisket, and smoked sausage
Corn Bread: excellent! 8 of 10. (sheet bread style, bits of corn in it, not too sweet, not too dry!)
Mac n Cheese: 6 of 10
Sauce Selection: 9 of 10
Then, we scurried through the rain back to the car and made our way to Atlanta with only another few hours in the car.
Atlanta, Georgia

We spent a whole week in Atlanta, with my cousins, so we got to see more of the city from the locals’ perspective. We love Atlanta!
We ate Korean, dumplings, Mexican, fried chicken and waffles, fried okra, fried green tomatoes and we cooked Thai food one night and German food another…

We are big fans of a show called Ugly Delicious (highly recommend), and he goes to Atlanta for the fried chicken which is a big part of local culture here. We heard about this fried chicken place called Busy B’s and we had to check it out. It was super delicious! Super greasy and very tasty. It’s maybe something we could eat once a week… if we stopped caring about our heart health. 😉
While in Atlanta, we decided to go check out the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Memorial site. Along with a very interesting museum for all things civil rights, you can also visit the house where we was born and lived as a child. We were surprised that everything here was completely free. This is definitely worth the visit if you are ever in Atlanta. They did such a great job with the museum and the tour through his house. The tour guide / park ranger told us some great stories of Martin’s youth. The family helped redecorate the house to look exactly like it did when they were kids, finding old furniture similar to what they had in the house, and even relocating some items that actually belonged to the family. This added a personalized touch that is hard to get in most museums. In the outdoor area near the placement of his gravestone you could hear some of his speech recordings playing on repeat, kind of being carried around with the wind. We were impressed with this whole thing. Thanks to Johannes for suggesting we spend the afternoon here. 🙂
Walking around Piedmont Park, we had the luck to have some special moments captured. 🙂 Thanks Gresham!
During the rest of the time in Atlanta, we did some pretend-shopping at Ponce City Market, walked around a Walmart, ate lots of good food, drank lots of beer, sweated the beer out with hot yoga, and most importantly spent alot of excellent quality more-than-just family time with some of my (our) favorite people!! We will soon be seeing these people on this side of the world and we are so so excited!!!
Next post is about the time we spent in Nashville, Tennessee, the country music capital of the world! Check it out. 🙂
