Puerto Princesa, Palawan, the Philippines

So this is our 3rd city in the Philippines and after Alona Beach, we weren’t sure what to expect! Cebu was one side of the extreme, with the poverty and densely packed city and then Alona Beach was so very clean and touristy and basically a small village. Puerto Princesa is like a happy medium between the other two. It has a main city street which is pretty long and has many many street-facing shops ccontaining flower shops, tourist offices, massage places, laundromats, clothes stores, and so much more. There were a lot of restaurant options here as well! We spent the first evening there just walking down the street and checking out our options. We ended up back at this restaurant just around the corner from our hotel called Tiya Ising. Highly recommendable. We actually went back here for a second time and all 4 things ordered were super delicious. Which is a good save for filipino food in general, because before we ate at this place, we were not convinced that the food here is edible.

Below is a video I made as we were driving along one of the main streets in Puerto Princesa. I just wanted to capture the hectic traffic but I ended up getting this as well! 🙂 Wait for it…

There are only a handful of tourist sights to see here, and we did most in one day. We did not make it to the Palawan Museum unfortunately. As you can see, the weather was pretty much perfect the whole day!

About a 45 minute drive away from the main city, there are a few beaches on the west coast of the island. We decided to take a scooter over there for the day and see what we could find. Below is the island of Palawan. The red marker further to the right is Puerto Princesa and to the left is Nagtabon Beach.

First, we went to Nagtabon Beach. I wish I could somehow capture the immense beauty of this cove. We were not crowded, it has the perfect level of waves, the most beautiful clear cool water, and the sand was kind of like memory foam and didn’t blow up in our faces with every gust of wind. It was paradise.

And then just another 10 minutes up the coast by roller coaster roads, there is another beach called Buksayan Beach. It was already pretty late in the day, and those little beach bugs were starting to bite, so we only stayed for a while. This beach was EVEN LESS busy and the water was as calm as a lake. I keep using the word paradise and I don’t know how else to say it.

Here are some pictures of the different food dishes we ordered in Puerto Princesa. Unfortunately, we don’t have any pictures of the food from the Tiya Ising place where we ate so many times. I think because it was so good, we forgot to take a pic! Woops.

So that is Puerto Princesa, where we spent 3 nights. Next comes Sabang!! 🙂

  1. Liebe Katrina, lieber Johannes, Paradies hört sich sehr gut an! Dann wissen wir nun, welches Ziel wir haben. Obwohl wahrscheinlich jede ein anderes sucht.
    Liebe Grüße
