More Kuala Lumpur

In addition to the many food stalls and food markets and food courts, we also did some more touristy stuff. Not too far from KL city center, there is a cave where a temple has been built into it. This is apparently a very common thing to find in this part of the world and we saw many of them. The Batu Caves was the first one we saw. It was very colorful, very full of tourist traffic and also very very cool! We had to climb those 272 steps up into the entrance, watching little monkeys play and eat trash along the way…

…and then once you’re inside, there are roosters crowing (I don’t know why or how), more monkeys harassing the tourists for food, and more steps leading you down and back up again. When it was quiet enough, you could hear the water droplets hitting the ground. The sun was shining down from overhead and it was just beautiful!!

Something unrelated to sightseeing that I have really enjoyed here is this:

This child’s backpack with this picture but the text: “Robots in Disguise”…

This can of Kickapoo Joy Juice “Get that KICK” – It tastes kind of like mountain dew…

This child’s shirt that says “SPIDED MEA”

This sign for Coffee Town telling you to “always taste good”

This food stall called “Hot Chick”…

Thean Hou Temple

Next up is the Thean Hou Temple, a six-tiered temple of the Chinese sea goddess Mazu which was only opened to the public in 1989 (so it is as old as me!). As we don’t have a car or scooter here, and we aren’t part of a tour group, we walked about 30 minutes to this temple, up-hill through what looked like a pretty wealthy neighborhood. At the entrance to the temple, they were selling turtles, fish and small birds for the visitors to give as an offering to the temple. Never seen something like that before.

This place is so intricately decorated and so colorful. Every last inch has been designed with a purpose. Just look at this ceiling! All the little creatures, all the colors and the different textures! You could look up for ages and keep finding more nifty little details.

One thing we noticed about this place was the number of weddings happening here. Downstairs was a Marriage Registration office and there were probably 10 couples there in the time we were there, all of the brides wearing white or off-white and most of the family wearing something in fire-engine-red. There were quite a few insta-famous hopefuls there… and righfully so. It was deffo a picturesque backdrop for their many followers to like…
And now, some more pictures of FOOD! Because that really is the best part! 🙂

And coming up next, our Christmas in Ipoh, Malaysia. Next post coming soon!

  1. Ich lese Deinen Blog jedesmal, wenn er erscheint sofort! Ich finde es schön, so ein wenig „mitzureisen“. Schreib doch beim Food manchmal dazu, was das so ist. Liebe Grüße Karin
